Another year of e-waste hauling

Another year of e-waste hauling

Today was the big e-waste recycling day for the Hardware Coop, where we clean-out our obsolete inventory and pass it on a responsible recycler. This year I moved about 3 loads of about this size by cargo bike. In total, the cargo was probably equivalent to about 50 tower cases, or about 500+ pounds of e-waste.

This year we split the work with a volunteer’s pick-up truck, who also did about 3 loads. The bike got the lighter waste, and as a result the total weight didn’t come close to maxing out the electric motor on the one hill we had to climb on the route… with the first load we climbed it 16+ mph with moderate pedaling. This would have been a good use extending the trailer to full the 8′ (from about 6′ currently) and adding another tub or two for additional hauling volume.

Thanks to Justin and Ryan for moving stuff today, to the Richmond CoB for hosting the Hardware Coop, and to Earlham and Recycle Force for producing the event.
